Dr. Tarun Tyagi has received the 2024 JH Milstone Award which is given annually to support early-stage investigators and innovative research that improves understanding of bleeding, thrombosis, or thrombolysis. Dr. Tyagi is an Associate Research Scientist in the lab of John Hwa, MD, PhD, FRACP, Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) and Co-Director of the Yale Cooperative Center of Excellence in Hematology, Cardiovascular Medicine.
Dr. Tyagi’s research project is titled ‘Study of immune mediated platelet dysfunction by a cumulative approach model’ and the long-term goal of the study is to better understand the platelet dysfunction observed in Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) patients. He also has an interest in platelet-T cell crosstalk mechanisms and recently identified a novel platelet dependent T cell regulatory mechanism.
Leonard Milstone, MD, Professor Emeritus of and Senior Research Scientist in Dermatology at Yale School of Medicine set-up the JH Milstone Award in honor of his late father, J. Haskell Milstone, MD who taught pathology and blood coagulation to a generation of medical students and residents at Yale and advocated strongly for better treatment for those with hemophilia.
