The mission of Yale-New Haven Transplantation Center (YNHTC) is to save lives of patients with end stage organ failure and restore them to health through innovative surgical and state-of-the-art medical care. The hallmarks of our program are clinical excellence, passionate patient care and research in organ failure for adult and pediatric patients.
Dedicated to providing compassionate care of the highest quality, the YNHTC team is comprised of world-renowned physicians, surgeons and scientists and a wide variety of organ transplant and medical specialties. Expert integration of multidisciplinary medical services is one of the major principles on which YNHTC has been built. Working hand in hand with nurses, social workers and support staff, YNHTC physicians and surgeons coordinate the complex treatments before transplantation and afterward.
The mission of YNHTC also includes research and education. YNHTC researchers are working, independently and through collaborative efforts with other centers in the United States and throughout the world, to improve organ preservation; reduce rejection; minimize post-surgical complications and the side effects of immunosuppression; and prevent recurrence of disease.
YNHTC educational initiatives include a highly acclaimed multi-organ surgical transplant fellowship program; training of GI fellows in transplant hepatology conferences for community physicians and other health care professionals; development of a medical school curriculum on transplantation; and critically important public education activities to increase organ donation.
YNHTC faces an exciting future. By uniting its experts as a caring, well-balanced team and by integrating the strengths of its components, YNHTC expects to broaden the scope and possibilities of transplantation, and to answer questions that are critical to treatment of disease and to patients’ quality of life.
Yale-New Haven Transplantation Center supports the mission of the Hospital and Yale School of Medicine to provide high quality patient care, teach the next generation of physicians, nurses and allied health staff, advance health care treatments through research and serve our local community. We provide state-of-the-art technology, medication management, and surgical techniques. We combine the resources of Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Yale University School of Medicine, and also work with local community providers, to provide the highest-quality care for our patients in order to fulfill our mission.
We have organized a comprehensive team of providers to carefully review each patient’s needs and provide an objective assessment of the potential risks and benefits of organ transplantation.
The Transplantation Center is a specialty resource for the region so that after transplantation, patients usually return to their community for ongoing care but also return to the Transplantation Center periodically. The Transplantation Center works with many community agencies to support families in post-transplant care, and to support and advocate for organ donation. Many more patients could benefit from organ transplantation than can be served with the current supply.
