Katerina Politi

Assistant Professor of Medicine and of Pathology

Biography

Katerina Politi studied Biology at the University of Pavia in Italy. She then moved to New York, where she obtained her PhD in Genetics and Development working with Argiris Efstratiadis at Columbia University. Following graduate school, she joined Harold Varmus' lab at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and began her work on the molecular basis of lung cancer. She continues this work at Yale as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and the Yale Cancer Center.

Deborah Ayeni

Deborah Ayeni is a graduate student in the Politi Lab.  She conducts research on the promising potential of combining agents that stimulate the immune system with small molecule inhibitors that specifically target tumor cells.  Deborah is a recipient of the City University of New York Salk Award, the National Science Foundation Fellowship, the Yale University Gruber Fellowship, and the Yale University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Annie Le Fellowship.  Deborah earned her bachelor’s...

Amlak Bantikassegn

Amlak Bantikassegn has been a post-graduate research assistant in the Politi Lab since 2012.  His first project involved determining a protocol to isolate lung epithelial cells from transgenic mice with lung adenocarcinoma.  Amlak currently conducts in-vitro drug combination studies on lung adenocarcinoma cell lines.  He plans to attend medical school and is interested in pursuing medical oncology thereafter.  When not in the lab, Amlak enjoys soccer (an avid Chelsea Football Club...

Mary Ann C Melnick

Mary Ann Melnick has been the lab manager for the Politi Lab in the Yale Cancer Center since 2010. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, and master’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Georgetown University. Ryan Reyes

Anna K. Wurtz

Anna Wurtz is a Research Associate in the Politi Lab. She serves as the study coordinator for collaborative translational research projects between the Politi Lab and the Yale Cancer Center Thoracic Oncology Group. She received her B.S. in Biology from Binghamton University. Anna previously worked in clinical research coordination for the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation and the Yale Cancer Center.
