Mark Youngblood, an MD/PhD student in the laboratory of Murat Gunel, has been selected to receive the Integra Foundation Award at this year's AANS meeting in Los Angeles. This honor is conferred annually to a high-scoring abstract focused on clinical or basic science research of benign brain tumors. Mark studies the molecular features of meningioma, seeking to understand the genomic drivers behind this common cancer. Recent work in the Gunel lab has established five mutually-exclusive genomic subgroups that underlie formation of over 80% of meningiomas. His presentation will extend these studies and describe a recent analysis of over 1500 tumors, including the molecular and clinical features that correlate with established driver mutations. Mark will present his findings, titled "Clinical and Molecular Features of Genomic Subgroups in Meningioma", during the AANS Plenary Session on April 26.
