The Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the following faculty promotions, as approved by the Board of Permanent Officers at its September 21, 2022 meeting:

  • Saber Ghiassi, MD, MPH, promotion to Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Clinical Track, July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2027.
  • Courtney Gibson, MS, MD, promotion to Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Clinical Track, July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2027.

“Promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor is a significant academic milestone. The faculty is no longer a new or junior faculty, a promise, an unknown entity. The Associate Professor is a known and trusted faculty member, one who understands the system and has successfully navigated it,”said Vice Chair of Research Dr. Alan Dardik, at an Oct. 12 reception honoring surgical faculty rank promotions from the past year.

Dr. Ghiassi joined YSM faculty and as Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at Bridgeport Hospital in 2015. He completed his General Surgery training at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where he served as the Administrative Chief Resident and was awarded the prestigious Alfred H. Aufses, Sr. Award in Surgery. He completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Dr. Gibson joined YSM faculty in 2013. She obtained her MD from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Richmond, VA.
