Overview
Joanne Sheu, MD, MPH, is a gynecologist who cares for women of all ages, offering medical and surgical management of a full range of gynecological issues including uterine bleeding, fibroids, abnormal cervical cancer screening results, pelvic pain, and contraception management. Her surgical practice, which includes minimally invasive procedures, includes care for ovarian masses, among other conditions.
“I chose gynecology because it is such a unique specialty in terms of being able to manage both medical and surgical issues,” Dr. Sheu says. “Also, I love the continuity of care and being able to take care of my patients at all stages of life.”
Dr. Sheu emphasizes patient education and open communication in all of her interactions with patients with the goal of helping them understand their body, their condition, and what interventions, if any, she might be suggesting.
An assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Sheu is also a researcher focused on focused on human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause cervical and other cancers. She is interested in the entire spectrum, from mild abnormal Pap smears, which screen for cervical cancer, to cervical precancers.
