Trainings in LGBTQ-affirmative CBT
We have multiple training opportunities available for providers who want to learn how to deliver LGBTQ-affirmative CBT with clients.
Below you can find a specific description, dates, cost, and continuing education (CE) credits for each training offering.
Self-guided online training

Attendees can enroll in an asynchronous course on LGBTQ-affirmative CBT administered through the course website Canvas. The course contains 12 modules, each designed to take approximately one hour to complete, designed by our team of mental health experts for the LGBTQ community. The online program includes didactic training videos, client vignettes, video demonstrations, animated content, and in-session resources for implementing LGBTQ-affirmative CBT in practice. This option is ideal for providers who want to study at their own pace with a flexible schedule. Access to Canvas will be available for one year from date of enrollment.

- This program is Approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC, ACEP No. 7937). Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

12-week live online training (1-hour per week)

Attendees can enroll in a 12-week online training that consists of weekly, 1-hour seminars led by members of our team of expert trainers. In addition to client vignettes, video demonstrations, and resources for implementing LGBTQ-affirmative CBT in practice, attendees will be able to engage in discussions with other attendees and ask live questions. Although there are some opportunities for experiential practice, this training option is largely didactic in nature. This option is ideal for providers who want to be able to interact directly with trainers and other learners–and who appreciate weekly training structure. Attendees will also receive access to our asynchronous online training platform delivered through Canvas, which they can continue to access after the training for one year.

3-day live online intensive training (3 full days)

Attendees can enroll in a 3-day intensive online training that covers all the content delivered in our asynchronous and synchronous trainings in three full days (9:00 AM – 4:30 PM ET) and includes more opportunities for experiential practice of key concepts and techniques. This option is ideal for providers who want to have opportunities for live practice and feedback of LGBTQ-affirmative CBT techniques from our expert trainers – and who appreciate an immersive training format. Attendees will also receive access to our asynchronous online training platform delivered through Canvas for one year.

Booster Webinars (One 90-minute session)

Following completion of an introductory training, attendees can enroll in a one-time webinar to receive a refresher on LGBTQ-affirmative CBT and ask the trainers questions about delivering the treatment. This webinar will be 60 minutes. 45 minutes of refresher content and 15 minutes for Q&A.

Monthly consultation group (One 90-minute session per month)

Following completion of an introductory training, attendees can enroll in a 6-month consultation group to obtain further individualized training. This consultation group will be an opportunity for group members to receive feedback on their application of LGBTQ-affirmative CBT from peers and an expert in LGBTQ-affirmative CBT. These groups will be limited to 6 people and scheduled for 90 minutes according to mutual availability.
