My laboratory is a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary group working at the edges of Physiology, Systems Biology, and Synthetic Biology. Our long term goal is to decode the phosphoproteome in order to decipher signaling networks critical for physiological processes. We aim to find new roles for kinases, their substrates, and protein-protein interactions on a system-wide level that will identify molecular mechanisms important for both healthy and disease states in humans. We are identifying phosphoproteins relevant to hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and cancer to study their properties and therapeutic potential. Paramount in our research efforts is leverage of genetic code expansion to transform our understanding of protein phosphorylation.
