Yale OCD Research Clinic

Dr. Pittenger is also the Director of the Yale OCD Research Clinic.

The Research Clinic was founded in the 1980s and has been the source over the years of some of the most important advances in the the understanding and treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Dr. Pittenger assumed directorship of the clinic in 2007.

Current research focuses largely on the hypothesis that glutamate dysregulation may contribute to the pathophysiology of OCD, and that glutamate-modulating therapeutics may therefore be of benefit to patients who are not helped by current pharmacological and psychotherapeutic approaches.

The Pittenger laboratory and the OCD Research Clinic strive to identify opportunities for translational interactions between basic science and clinical studies of OCD, Tourette syndrome, and related disorders. The closeness of the lab and the clinic creates unusual opportunities for such interactions.
