Research Program

A discovery program for ER metabolite homeostasis

A central question for the lab is how ER metabolite homeostasis is maintained and regulated, and how this metabolic balance supports the many functions of the ER, including protein folding, lipid synthesis, calcium storage, and secretion. We are especially interested in how the ER coordinates protein homeostasis with metabolite homeostasis, and how disruption of this balance contributes to cellular dysfunction and disease.

  • Program Model

    Protein and metabolite homeostasis

We study how the ER balances metabolite availability with core organelle functions, including protein folding, secretion, lipid synthesis, and calcium storage.

  • Discovery Strategy

    Forward and reverse genetics

We combine reverse genetics with ER-IP metabolomics, and forward genetics with microbe-derived enzymes, to identify transporters, enzymes, and regulatory pathways that control ER metabolism.

  • In Vivo Direction

    PanERama

Using ER-tagged mouse models generated in the lab, we will build ER-focused datasets of proteins and metabolites across tissues and disease states to reveal disease-associated changes and potential therapeutic insights.
