Dr. Luisa Escobar-Hoyos Named Pew-Stewart Scholar

Luisa Escobar-Hoyos, MSc, PhD, Assistant Professor of Therapeutic Radiology, has been named one of five recipients of the 2023 Pew-Stewart Scholars Cancer Research Award. Dr. Escobar-Hoyos will explore the molecular processes that cause patients to become resistant to cancer immunotherapies.

Dr. Escobar-Hoyos obtained her master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. As a Fulbright Scholar, she pursued a Ph.D. in Cancer Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology at Stony Brook University mentored by Dr. Kenneth Shroyer. She then completed her postdoctoral training at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center co-mentored by Drs. Steven Leach and Omar Abdel-Wahab. In 2020, Dr. Escobar-Hoyos joined the Department of Therapeutic Radiology at Yale as an Assistant Professor.

The Pew-Stewart Scholars Program for Cancer Research is a national initiative designed to support promising early career scientists whose research will accelerate discovery and advance progress to a cure for cancer. The program is funded by The Alexander and Margaret Stewart Trust and administered by Pew.
