Thirteen members of the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) and Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) faculties have been elected to the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE). In all, 35 of Connecticut’s leading experts in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine were elected this year.
Those from YSM and YSPH are:
- Hilary P. Blumberg, MD, John and Hope Furth Professor of Psychiatric Neuroscience and professor of psychiatry, in the Child Study Center, and of radiology & biomedical Imaging; and director of the YSM Mood Disorders Research Program.
- Kelly P. Cosgrove, PhD, professor of psychiatry and of neuroscience and of radiology & biomedical imaging, and director of the T32 Translational Alcohol Research Program at YSM and YSPH.
- Andrew L. Goodman, PhD, chair and C.N.H. Long Professor of Microbial Pathogenesis, and director of YSM’s Microbial Sciences Institute.
- Stephanie Halene, MD, Dr Med, Arthur H. and Isabel Bunker Professor of Medicine (Hematology) and professor of pathology at YSM.
- Mark A. Lemmon, PhD, chair and Alfred Gilman Professor of Pharmacology, YSM.
- Lucila Ohno-Machado, MD, PhD, MBA, Waldemar von Zedtwitz Professor of Medicine and of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science; deputy dean for biomedical informatics; and chair of the Section of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science at YSM.
- Christopher Pittenger, MD, PhD, Elizabeth Mears and House Jameson Professor of Psychiatry; deputy chair for translational research, director of the Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit; director of the Yale Program for Psychedelic Science; and co-director of the Yale Center for Mind, Brain & Behavior at YSM.
- Megan L. Ranney, MD, MPH, dean and C.-E. A. Winslow Professor of Public Health (Health Policy) at YSPH and professor of emergency medicine at YSM.
- Karin M. Reinisch, PhD, David W. Wallace Professor of Cell Biology and of Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry at YSM.
- Valerie Reinke, PhD, professor of genetics at YSM.
- Kevin N. Sheth, MD, professor of neurology and of neurosurgery; vice chair for clinical and translational research in the Departments of Neurology and of Neurosurgery; director of the Yale Center for Brain & Mind Health; division chief, Neurocritical Care and Emergency Neurology.
- Eric P. Winer, MD, Alfred Gilman Professor of Pharmacology and professor of medicine (medical oncology); and director of Yale Cancer Center.
- Xiaoyong Yang, PhD, professor of comparative medicine and of cellular & molecular physiology.
Election to CASE is on the basis of scientific and engineering distinction as demonstrated by original published books and papers, patents, the pioneering of new and developing fields and innovative products, outstanding leadership of nationally recognized technical teams, and external professional awards in recognition of scientific and engineering excellence.
