In the UNRAVEL study, we’re measuring Lp(a) levels in people from various backgrounds across the U.S. to see how it affects heart health. Lp(a) is a type of fat like LDL cholesterol, often called "bad cholesterol." High Lp(a) levels can cause plaque buildup and narrow blood vessels, increasing the risk of heart disease. These levels usually stay the same over time and can run in families. Knowing your risk can help you and your loved ones take steps to lower it with medications.
If you join the study, you’ll fill out health questionnaires and connect your electronic health records (EHRs) securely. You will also attend have blood draw appointment to measure your Lp(a) free of cost.
As a participant in the UNRAVEL Study, you will learn valuable information about your heart health. After your blood draw, you can share your results with your doctor to discuss any changes to your medications or lifestyle that might help protect your heart. Since Lp(a) levels stay fairly constant, one test can give valuable insights for your long-term care. Plus, you will be helping important research on heart disease treatments that could benefit your family and others in the community.
