Admissions at Cedarhurst

  • Overview

We accept referrals to each of our programs on a rolling basis, throughout the school year and summer. Referrals are only accepted from public school districts. Those districts fund the Cedarhurst tuition and arrange transportation.

    Students admitted to Cedarhurst have:

    • Qualified for special education supports
    • Have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with a primary special education designation of emotional disability, other health impairment, or autism.

Most families explore more than one program when they are choosing an outplacement, and we recommend that as a good way to find the right fit for your student.

We are happy to answer any questions you have about the process and about our program.

  • Steps for Admission to Cedarhurst

    1. Get an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
Your public school district provides a referral to special education and an IEP.
    2. Get a Referral
Discuss Cedarhurst School as an option with the school support and planning and placement teams (PPT).
    3. Schedule a Family Visit
Once there is a referral, we will reach out to schedule an informational tour and an interview with the parent and student.
    4. Schedule a School Shadow
During a school shadow, the student will spend time visiting classes and meeting students and staff.
    5. Schedule a PPT Meeting
If the parent, student, Cedarhurst staff, and local school district agree, we will meet to revise the IEP and choose a start date.
