Welcome to the Morrow Lab

In the Morrow Lab, our focus of research is the spectrin membrane cytoskeleton and its evidently pivotal role in the process of organizing specialized membrane-surface domains that are central to the integrated function of all multicellular organisms. Among the questions we research and discuss are: How is it that cells are so elegant in their spatial design? How do tissues and cells achieve specialized or polarized domains? How does the cellular scaffold comprised of a protein called spectrin contribute to forming and maintaining order within membranes? And in terms of practical relevance to disease processes: How does the loss of spectrin function contribute to red blood cell disorders such as hereditary hemolytic anemia or diseases of the central nervous system including cerebellar ataxias and intellectual disability?
