The Neuro-APAP Study
“Neurodevelopmental Effect of Acetaminophen Exposures”
Acetaminophen (also known as paracetamol or Tylenol) is recommended as a safe treatment to reduce pain and fever during pregnancy. However, there has been little data on safety for potential long-term health effects from early life exposure to acetaminophen. The Liew lab is leading a NIH/NICHD-funded study (R01HD109213) that will conduct in-depth statistical analyses using the Danish National Birth Cohort and several population medical registries to investigate whether prenatal and postnatal exposures to APAP may affect child neurodevelopment with longitudinal assessments from infancy through age 18.
