Kavli Institute for Neuroscience at Yale University

The research in the Kavli Institute for Neuroscience at Yale University, endowed through a commitment from the Kavli Foundation, will focus on innovative approaches, including the use of model systems, that have the capability of increasing our understanding of the human brain. A multidisciplinary research strategy, ranging from molecular genetics to behavior, will be used to explore the development, cellular organization, and function of the nervous system, which mediates our perception, memory, language and thought. The goal of the Yale Kavli Institute for Neuroscience is to understand how the arrangement and operation of nerve cells and their synaptic circuits embody knowledge of the outside world, combine it with past experience and future goals to foster behavior. We will also explore how our genome constructs the microarchitecture of the nervous system, allowing it to perform tasks at all levels including higher cognitive functions such as language and thought.
