Biography
Dr. Gould Rothberg is a physician-scientist with Board-certification in Internal Medicine and a PhD in Cancer Epidemiology.
While at Yale, her medical practice was in Oncology Hospital Medicine where she attended in the Smilow Oncology Extended Care Center (2017-2021) and as an Oncology Nocturnist, caring for Smilow inpatients (2020-2023). During this period, she also collaborated with Smilow Hospitalist Leadership on research projects relating to the Quality, Safety and Efficiency of inpatient cancer care.
In the lab, her research addressed molecular and lifestyle markers of both cutaneous melanoma and lung cancer prognosis. She was the medical director of the Yale Lung Cancer Bioreporsitory (2011-2018) and site PI for the InterMEL multicenter study addressing molecular markers of Stage II-III melanoma prognosis (2015-2018) and continues to publish from both these studies.
In 2024, Dr. Gould Rothberg moved to the University of Miami where she currently contributes to the National Firefighter Cancer Initiative (FCI), a research program affiliated with the Department of Public Health and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Institute. In 2023, the IARC has designated firefighting as a Class I carcinogen and the FCI is evaluating occupationally-driven, environmental exposures that contribute to this risk as well as strategies to increase awareness among firefighters. The FCI also serves to educate the firefighting community and advocate for policies that can reduce cancer burden despite ongoing occupational exposures. Within this community, Dr. Gould Rothberg contributes to programs that address risks for thyroid cancer and cutaneous melanoma.
