Meet the Co-Leaders of Yale PEW

  • Co-Leader

Associate Professor of Epidemiology (Environmental Health Sciences)

Dr. Liew is an environmental and perinatal epidemiologist and a research methodologist. A core focus of his work is understanding how exposures that occur during critical and vulnerable periods of development may shape disease risks and influence health outcomes throughout our life span. Dr. Liew is leading numerous studies with funding from the NIH to evaluate whether fetal exposures to endocrine disrupting compounds and/or neurotoxicants could harm fetal brain development leading to neurological disorders or impaired neuropsychological function in childhood and young adulthood. He is also interested in methodological….

Assistant Professor of Medicine (Rheumatology, Allergy & immunology)

Dr. Chock is a physician and clinical researcher investigating maternal child health outcomes among patients with rheumatic diseases. She has strong interests in reproductive rheumatology and utilizing large datasets to support her research. Dr. Chock completed her MD degree at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada. She completed her residency at New York Presbyterian in Queens, New York. Dr. Chock joined the Section of Rheumatology for her fellowship in and she received her MPH degree from Johns Hopkins University.
  • Co-Leader

Assistant Professor of Medicine (General Medicine) and Epidemiology (Chronic Diseases)

Haidong Lu is an epidemiologist and methodologist who is passionate about bridging the disciplines of epidemiology, statistics, population health and medical research. His research focuses on leveraging appropriate advanced epidemiologic methods and data science techniques to draw causal inferences from observational data (e.g., electronic health records). Through this approach, he strives to generate accurate and impactful real-world evidence bases that inform health decision-making and promote public health equity. In addition to observational studies, he is dedicated to enhancing methodologies for analyzing randomized controlled trials, particularly in addressing challenges related to non-compliance and generalizability. He is also interested in the burgeoning field of Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare (AI4Health). His substantive research interests center around pharmacoepidemiology, substance use, and HIV. Dr. Lu earned a PhD in Epidemiology with a formal minor in Biostatistics from UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, and a master's degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is also clinically trained with a degree in pharmacy, further reinforcing his diverse and extensive background in health-related fields.
