Excess Deaths During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Welcome
Our research focuses on the mechanisms driving the observed epidemiological patterns of respiratory infections, particularly pneumococcal disease and RSV. Pneumococcus causes a large burden of disease worldwide, particularly among young children and the elderly.
Major research questions in the lab are related to long-term bacterial evolution, impacts of immunization on carriage and disease in different populations, and seasonal determinants of bacterial disease incidence (including viral co-infections and carriage). These projects utilize both quantitative tools and experimental laboratory studies.
