YSPH EMD Seminar Series: "Prospects for Elimination of African trypanosomiasis"

African trypanosomiasis, a zoonotic disease transmitted by tsetse flies, dramatically impacts human and animal health in subSahara. The elimination of the gambiense form of the human disease is anticipated by 2030, but rhodesiense form of the disease prevails in East Africa and animal diseases are rampant on the continent. Molecular investigations into tsetse's physiology and knowledge on parasite transmission mechanisms now stand to expand the toolbox and improve the sustainability of the disease control efforts to prevent future epidemics.
