What is the purpose of this trial?
The goal is to explore if genetic factors are associated with insulin resistance in children and and adolescents. Screening includes having an oral glucose tolerance test to measure blood glucose levels and insulin levels and to have a blood sample drawn for genetic testing. Individuals with the CC or TT genotype of the TCF7L2 gene and are have impaired glucose tolerance based on the oral glucose tolerance test are eligible to participate in the main study which includes an infusion study and other tests of glucose and insulin secretion.
