MQ Mental Health Research Appoints Blumberg to Science Council

April 26, 2022

MQ Mental Health Research has appointed Hilary Blumberg, MD, the John and Hope Furth Professor of Psychiatric Neuroscience, to its Science Council.

The international mental health research charity, based in London, raises money for mental health research in youth. Blumberg has been the U.S. Lead of an MQ-supported international research consortium to identify brain scanning markers of risk for suicide in adolescents and young adults with major depression and bipolar disorder, “HOPES” Help Overcome and Prevent the Emergence of Suicide. The organization seeks applications from any country and any discipline through their various research programs.

An MQ aim is to provide significant funding for researchers just establishing their careers as independent investigators. There is currently a call for the MQ fellowship program. The focus of this year’s fellowship funding opportunity is “Gone Too Soon” – research on the premature mortality of people living with mental health problems. There is also a call for applications for fellowships in the area of mental health in type-1 diabetes, funded jointly by JDRF and MQ Mental Health Research for research on suicide, co-morbidities, or any other aspect of premature mortality associated with mental illness.

More information on the application process can be found here. Yale researchers may also email Blumberg at hilary.blumberg@yale.edu to learn more.
