January 12, 2017

Marina Picciotto, PhD, Charles B.G. Murphy Professor of Psychiatry and Professor in the Child Study Center, and Deputy Chair for Basic Science Research in the Yale Department of Psychiatry, will become President of the Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco (SRNT) in the Spring.

SRNT is the only professional association dedicated exclusively to the support of researchers, academics, treatment professionals, government employees, and others who work across disciplines in the field of nicotine and tobacco research, according to its website. It has members in 40 countries.

In the United States, SRNT advances the field of nicotine and tobacco research by working with groups including the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Control and Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, the National Cancer Institute, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Picciotto said that as President of SRNT, she will make sure that basic neuroscience and molecular studies are well represented in the priorities of the Society, and that the organization focuses on bringing in and involving more trainees and young scientists.
