Faculty and trainees superbly showcased our academic excellence during the 2025 American Urological Association’s annual meeting (AUA). Seventeen members of Yale Urology participated, contributing to a wide range of podium presentations, poster sessions, and society talks.
Also, at the AUA, it was a pleasure to debut the Yale Urology bow ties and twilly scarves during our Alumni and Friends Reception. A special highlight of that evening was the presentation of the Robert M. Weiss Distinguished Alumni Medal to Michel Pontari, MD, a resident graduate of the class of ’91.
Please don’t forget to submit nominations for the next recipient of the alumni medal by THIS Sunday, June 1. It will be awarded at our 3rd Annual Yale Urology Bulldog Debates in New York City, taking place Nov. 7–9.
Turning to faculty news, two esteemed members have announced retirement plans.
Ralph DeVito, MD, will retire effective Aug. 1, 2025, after more than 30 years in urology and over a decade on our faculty. During the transition following my arrival (in fall 2021), he graciously remained on staff to ensure continuity of care. We look forward to celebrating his outstanding career later this summer.
John Colberg, MD, has also opted to enter phased retirement, with plans to fully retire in the 2027-28 academic year. Since joining the faculty in 1998, Colberg has provided compassionate, exemplary cancer care and has been a tireless advocate for our department.
To honor the legacies of both DeVito and Colberg, endowment drives will be launched in their names. More information to come.
Thank you for all you do each day for our patients and urologic innovation.
