Mentoring of junior faculty members by their more senior YSM colleagues is an important way to train and retain female faculty members for top-level faculty positions at YSM. Mentoring initiatives are developed through the Office for Faculty Affairs and led by Dr. Linda Bockenstedt, Director of Faculty Development and Equity, with participation by SWIM. A new department-based mentoring plan for junior faculty was implemented in July 2009. In addition, a Faculty Advancement Series and a New Faculty Orientation is offered through the Office for Faculty Affairs.
