On March 12, Yale-New Haven Hospital announced the first eight-patient, paired kidney transplant exchange in Connecticut. Surgical teams — which included Drs. David Mulligan, Sanjay Kulkarni, and Peter Schulam of Yale School of Medicine — performed all eight procedures on the same day, which occurred during National Kidney Month. These life-saving donations all started with the offer of the first altruistic donor, Patricia Menno-Coveney of Mystic, Connecticut, shown at the podium, along with her fellow donors and recipients.
