Will Rutland, MD, JD, MPH, an Addiction Psychiatry Fellow in the Yale Department of Psychiatry, has been reappointed to the Connecticut State Medical Society’s (CSMS) Opioid Committee.
Rutland was initially appointed to the committee in 2018. The committee is a subgroup of CSMS leadership that collaborates with the American Medical Association and other state medical societies to address legislation and regulations that pertain to the opioid epidemic.
Historically, members have worked on initiatives that range from developing effective drug monitoring programs, promoting medical education around opioid use and prescription, evaluating restrictions on treatment of opioid use disorder, and promoting legislation enabling naloxone access.
Rutland said he wants to continue to increase access to quality care for people who live with opioid use disorder (OUD) and increase awareness and understanding of OUD – and substance use disorders, more broadly – among providers, trainees, and the public. He also will work to shape policies that set the standard for providing compassionate addiction care to communities throughout Connecticut and beyond.
Rutland is a 2021 graduate of the Yale Psychiatry Residency Program.
