Dr. Rajendra Sawh-Martinez is currently the inaugural Yale Craniofacial Surgery Fellow with an appointment as a Clinical Instructor, in the section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Yale. 

Dr. Sawh-Martinez graduated with honors from New York University with a Bachelor of Science in Neural Science, and attended the Yale University School of Medicine. He recently completed the Yale Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Program, and Chief Resident appointment at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Dr. Sawh-Martinez spent two years as an NIH Research Fellow in the Vascular Tissue Engineering Laboratory that was the first in the world to implant tissue engineered blood vessels into human infants to repair their congenital heart defects. He is a resident blogger for PRS Resident Chronicles and a former resident ambassador to the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal.

Raj is a graduate of the Yale SMDEP class of 2002, and credits this experience as having set his academic trajectory. He has been intimately involved with recruiting and retaining underrepresented minority students throughout his academic career. During medical school he served as national co-chair of NBLHO (now LMSA-NE) and is a former co-chair of the Yale Minority Housestaff Organization.

He aspires to develop an academic career as a Pediatric Craniofacial Surgeon while continuing to work towards sustainable development of underserved communities.
