Telemedicine Task Force Supports, Leverages Faculty Experience
The Department of Surgery has established the Telemedicine Task Force to provide faculty and trainees with best practices for the expansion of TeleHealth. Department Chair, Dr. Nita Ahuja has appointed Dr. Ronald Salem Chair of the committee. Members include Faculty and Division Administrators. Nikki Delucia, a director on the joint YNHHS/YM Telehealth Team, will provide important technical support for the Task Force, as well as serve as a liaison to the YNHHS/YM resources.

Their recent paper highlights 20 patients, from a ~60 patient-database — the largest in the world. The research prompted global giant Oticon Medical to select Yale for a clinical trial on a new device awaiting FDA approval.

This Is What It Means If You Get Constant Ringing In Your Ears
Some people experience tinnitus related to sensorineural hearing loss, which occurs when there’s damage to the inner ear. This more permanent form of hearing loss is often age-related, but it can also result from trauma or exposure to loud noises. Tinnitus is actually the top service-related disability among veterans. Hearing aids are one way to address this form of hearing loss and any related tinnitus, but they aren’t always effective. Other people may experience tinnitus as a result of conductive hearing loss, or when sounds can’t get through your outer and middle ear to your inner ear. Potential causes can include infections, fluid in the ears or earwax that’s stuck in the ear canal. Typically, this form of hearing loss and any related tinnitus can be treated with medication, hearing aids, surgery or other medical procedures, such as an earwax extraction.

As partners in medical education, Medical Library staff provide instruction in courses throughout Yale. This past year, our staff were guest lecturers in thirty-five courses across the Medical Center and Yale College curriculums. A key partner in educational assessment, library staff also participate on various committees involved in evaluating and improving programs in the Medical Center, such as the YSM Educational Policy and Curriculum Committee, the YSPH Working Group on Research, and the Physician Associate Program Assessment Committee. We are deeply engaged in all aspects of Medical Center community life, with staff serving on committees ranging from the YSM Security Committee to the Art in Public Spaces Committee.
