Biography

Lisa M. Kodadek, MD, FACS is Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of General Surgery, Trauma and Surgical Critical Care and provides comprehensive clinical care for patients with time-sensitive surgical disease including acute traumatic injuries, emergency surgical conditions, and critical illness. She holds certifications from The American Board of Surgery in Surgical Critical Care and Surgery.

Dr. Kodadek has experience performing clinical outcomes research among underserved populations with the use of mixed methods including qualitative, quantitative, and patient-centered approaches. Her current research focuses on older adult populations, the critically ill, and patients experiencing life-threatening surgical disease. She studies patient-centered ways to improve communication and care in the intensive care unit setting including establishing and addressing goals of care and use of palliative care. She has a particular interest in understanding the bioethical challenges associated with caring for critically ill patients.

Dr. Kodadek completed internship and residency in general surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed fellowship in surgical critical care and acute care surgery and a certificate of distinction in biomedical ethics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is involved in national organizations including the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma where she currently serves as Chair of the Guidelines Committee.
