Adam Hittelman, MD, PhD has been appointed Section Chief of Pediatric Urology for Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital and Yale Urology and as Vice Chair of Urology for Faculty Affairs and Administration. Dr. Hittelman is an Associate Professor of Urology and currently serves as Director of Global Urology and Director of the Residency Program for Yale Urology. He joined the Yale School of Medicine faculty in 2008.
Clinically, Dr. Hittelman’s primary focus is in reconstructive surgeries for children born with congenital anomalies, including hydronephrosis, primary vesicoureteral reflux, and disorders of sexual development. He also cares for children with kidney stones, hypospadias, hydroceles, and hernias. He offers traditional and minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic-assisted surgeries.
Dr. Hittelman earned his medical degree and his PhD in molecular and cellular biology from New York University. He later completed his residency and fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, a program renowned for its multidisciplinary approach to training and research in the field of pediatric urology.
We would also like to express our appreciation to Robert Weiss, MD, FACS, FAAP, Donald Guthrie Professor of Urology, for his tremendous leadership over the section of pediatric urology for the past several decades. Dr. Weiss has dedicated his career to the improvement in children’s health and has mentored countless trainees in the field throughout his career. He has received numerous honors during his esteemed career, including membership with the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons and the American Board of Urology, recognition as the first urologist to receive an NIH Merit Award, and a recipient of the Pediatric Urology Medal from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Weiss also served as Interim Chair of Surgery and Chief of the Section of Urology during his career at Yale. He will continue to care for his patients and participate in the section’s activities.
