Yale Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery offers a comprehensive elective sub-internship for medical students in their final year of school. During this time, medical students become an integral member of the clinical team at the York Street campus at Yale New Haven Hospital. In the operating room, students will gain extensive exposure to a wide range of plastic surgery techniques with the opportunity to improve their operative technique. They will also participate in weekly didactics and grand rounds conferences.
However, in accordance with the Coalition for Physician Accountability guidance for medical student clinical rotations during the COVID-19 outbreak, we will not be able to offer an in-person sub-internship in 2020. However, we are pleased to offer two opportunities (July 13-17 and October 26-30) for a virtual sub-internship.
The virtual sub-internship includes:
- Live stream surgeries
- Faculty-lead small group indications conferences
- Resident-led hands-on workshops
- Virtual campus tours
- An individual presentation at the end of the sub-internship to showcase your interests
- A one-on-one meeting with Program Director Dr. Henry Hsia
Apply to the Yale Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Virtual Sub-internship through the AAMC Visiting Student Learning OpportunitiesTM (VSLO, also known as VSAS) Program, where it is listed under EL 201 Plastic Surgery.
- Letter of recommendation (from a faculty member with whom you have worked clinically)
- Personal health insurance
For any questions, please contact Medical Student Clerkship Director Dr. Michael Alperovich.
UPDATE (October 2020) : Applications for the virtual sub-internship are closed at this time and no longer being accepted. Please check this website for updates on future opportunities in 2021.
