The Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the following faculty promotions, as approved by the Board of Permanent Officers at its October 18, 2022 meeting:

  • Paris Butler, MD, MPH, FACS, appointment as Associate Professor of Surgery (Plastic) in the Clinician-Educator Track, April 1, 2022 to June 30, 2026.
  • Jonathan Cardella MSc, MD, FRCS, FACS, promotion to Associate Professor of Surgery (Vascular) in the Clinician-Educator Track, July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2027.

“These new Associate Professors are the life of the Department and inspirations to the students, the residents, and junior faculty who hope to follow in their footsteps,” said Vice Chair of Research Dr. Alan Dardik.

Dr. Butler’s rank promotion coincides with his appointment as Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for the YSM Department of Surgery. Dr. Butler was recruited for the inaugural role in April 2022 from the University of Pennsylvania Health System, where he led several under-represented in medicine initiatives.

Dr. Cardella joined the YSM surgical faculty in 2015 via the University of Toronto. He currently serves as Program Director for the Vascular Surgery Residency Program, and is an active mentor and advisor of the Yale Vascular Surgery Interest Group. He is a recent graduate of the American College of Surgeons’ prestigious Certificate in Applied Surgical Education Leadership (CASEL) initiative.
