The Yale Surgery Citizens Helping Hand award recognizes an individual’s extraordinary contribution toward a specific project, initiative, or circumstance.

MARCH RECIPIENTS

MICHAEL LIMOSANI NP GI Surgery “Mike and I had a patient several months ago that had acute bronchospasms. Patient was overall stable but did require neb treatment etc. As I was talking with the patient, then placing the non-rebreather mask on, I placed in the orders. Mike spoke in detail to the nurse and the anesthesia attending about the patient treatment plan. The patient recovered well soon after the neb treatment and continued to do well throughout the remainder of the short post-surgical hospital course. Though I have been an APP for a while, Mike really helped the patient and me that particular day. I am thankful to have Mike as a colleague.” – Evans Simmons

DANIELLE PAOLILO NP Otolaryngology "The ENT residents rotate through the Head and Neck Surgery service and during their chief year, the end of their Head and Neck rotation was always celebrated by “Cake Day” hosted by Dr. Sasaki. Dr. Sasaki would provide a cake of their choice and the division would gather to share some nice words about the chief resident. Danielle has graciously used her talent in baking delectable cupcakes to keep the long-standing “Cake Day” tradition alive for the chief residents, and most recently made these delicious cupcakes for David Kasle’s last day with the Head and Neck team in February. – Rebecca Calabrese

DR JAMES PASSARELLI Assistant Professor MIS/Bariatric Surgery “Dr. Passarelli went above and beyond the call of duty serving as the on call attending, coordinating emergency care with critical care, bariatric and thoracic surgery. His consistent and competent oversight provided opportunity for safe and effective care.” – John Morton

DR PATRICIA TORRES General Surgery Resident "She is always trying to help you in any possible way. She takes no for an answer and if there’s nothing to do, she will bring you food (specially sweets). She always looks to find ways to help anyone and is happy to do it. She will do whatever it takes to help you. - Maria Barahona

APRIL RECIPIENTS

PATRICIA BUSSEN APRN Plastic Surgery "Patricia was hired to be the craniofacial APRN, there has been many times that I and other administrative assistants needed assistance with a patient that was not in her patient population, and she is always willing to step in and help. She goes above and beyond and is definitely in my opinion, the description of a team player. – Laura Ludoviconi

REECE GESSICK RN Trauma Surgery “Reece not only takes excellent care of his assigned patients, always communicating clearly and effectively with providers, but also makes himself available to assist with care of any and all patients on the unit. His ability to forecast patient needs means he is always prepared and his expertise is only matched by his willingness to lend a hand. He is awesome to work with, a great teacher, and a super effective team player. - Allister Hirschman

DR MARK ECKARDT General Surgery Resident & DR NEIL PATHAK Orthopedic Surgery Resident “They both volunteered to stay for a 24 hour call at Bridgeport Hospital during the big snow storm on February 1. Neither were scheduled for call, and both stayed in house to allow the other residents to get home safely before the storm worsened! This was appreciated and kept everyone safe.” – Samantha Ahle
