Lung Transplant Program Announced at Yale New Haven Hospital

March 07, 2023

The following memo was sent from Francine LoRusso, MHA, RN, CCRN, CENP, Senior Vice President Operations & Executive Director for Heart and Vascular Services, Transplantation Center, Medicine Services and Radiology Services on February 7, 2023.

The Yale New Haven Health Heart and Vascular Center is pleased to announce the development of a Lung Transplant Program at Yale New Haven Hospital. With an official rollout set for the fall of 2023, the program will be the first in the state to provide transplantation services to adult patients living with advanced lung disease.

Dr. Arnar Geirsson, Surgeon-in-Chief for Cardiac Surgery; Dr. Jonathan Siner, Clinical Section Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine; and Dr. Naftali Kaminski, Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine will co-lead the program — a collaborative effort across the transplant, heart, vascular, and medical subspecialties. Dr. Robert Patrick Davis, Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery has been selected to serve as the program’s Surgical Director.

We look forward to UNOS approval and full development of the Lung Transplant Program in the coming months, and for the opportunity to provide Connecticut and Regional patients in need of lung transplants, with closer-to-home care.
