We are pleased to announce Dr. Roland Assi as Medical Director of Perfusion for YNHHS Heart and Vascular Center. As Medical Director of Perfusion, Dr. Assi will partner with the YNHH Perfusion Manager, Angela Stokes, and the perfusion team to ensure the highest quality of perfusion services. In his new role, Dr. Assi will work in close collaboration with Dr. Arnar Geirsson, Chief of Cardiac Surgery, Dr. Trevor Banack, Clinical Chief Perioperative Services and Vice Chair for Clinical Operations, and Holly Robins, Executive Director of CRNA and Perfusion Services. As medical director, Dr. Assi will be an essential partner in developing perfusion protocols optimizing cardiopulmonary bypass, and further developing ECMO services. This is critically important as ECMO utilization continues to increase with the advent of ECPR programs, and as a bridge to transplantation in heart failure.
Since completing his education in medicine, Dr. Assi has held several appointments with University College London, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University. Dr. Assi has been a faculty member of Yale School of Medicine for the last 3 years as Associate Program Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program. He is an active cardiac surgeon with a specialty focus on aortic surgery. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Assi on his new role at Yale New Haven Hospital.
