The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Maija Cheung to the position of Associate Program Director for Clinical Skills. Dr. Cheung will be charged largely with oversight of the residents’ simulation laboratory curriculum and technical skills development.

“Dr. Cheung brings unique and valuable perspective to this position, having graduated from our program. We are excited to further develop our clinical skills curriculum for both our trainees and faculty,” said General Surgery Residency Program Director, Dr. Peter Yoo.

Dr. Cheung was appointed to Assistant Professor in the MIS/Bariatrics Division in September of 2021. She has worked with a philanthropic organization, KidsOR since 2017 as an International Advisory Board member helping steer clinical development opportunities and data collection policies and was recently appointed as their Global Lead for Surgery.

Dr. Cheung's appointment to APD of Clinical Skills is part of a broader initiative to structure the APD position to focus on key development areas. The department recently appointed Dr. Vinny Mase as APD of Assessment. A search for APD of Academic Development is underway.
