Dr. Henry Hsia has been appointed Executive Director and Director of Wound Research for the Yale New Haven Health System’s Executive Committee for Wound Services. The newly established committee officially integrates Yale’s leading wound experts, toward the goal of developing a nation-leading program for comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and personalized wound care.

“This news brings to fruition many years of visionary thinking and strategic planning by our leaders. Dr. Hsia has been persistent in advancing the infrastructure and mission of a system-wide wound education and research center that will be unprecedented in the country,” said Division Chief of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Bohdan Pomahac.

Dr. Hsia, an Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery, first established the Regenerative Wound Healing Center at Yale New Haven Hospital, which pairs a clinical program for challenging, chronic wounds, with a scientific program that leverages cross-disciplinary insights to advance the development of novel treatment options.

“As a surgeon-scientist, I have always thought of the academic aspect of our wound program as the critical differentiator — something that not only drives patient referrals, but also attracts talented young physicians — trainees who get to experience bench-to-bedside science in action. The establishment of this new committee will help to further grow our academic initiatives beyond New Haven and across our hospitals,” said Dr. Hsia.

Joining Dr. Hsia on the committee is Program Director Wound Medicine Fellowship, Dr. Rummana Aslam, Lawrence + Memorial: Director of Wound Education; and community physicians, Dr. William Butler, Bridgeport Hospital: Director of Wound Operations and Dr. Sandra Wainwright, Greenwich Hospital: Director of Hyperbaric Medicine.
