Professor of Surgery Dr. Mehra Golshan Appointed Deputy CMO for Surgical Services at Smilow Cancer Hospital

The Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Mehra Golshan, MD, MBA, FACS, to the Yale Surgery community. Joining us on June 1, 2020 as Professor of Surgery, Dr. Golshan will support the health system in an inaugural leadership role, as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Surgical Services at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center (YCC).

“I am thrilled to be joining the team …. Working with inspiring clinical leaders, I am joining an organization that is rapidly expanding its cancer care footprint regionally, nationally, and around the world.,” Dr. Golshan shared.

Additionally, Dr. Golshan will assume the role of Interim Director of the Breast Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital, working in conjunction with Department of Surgery Section Chief of Breast Surgery, Brigid Killelea, MD, MPH, FACS.

“Dr. Golshan’s appointments contribute to our vision for true alignment across the system, and increased access to surgical oncology specialists across the region,” said Department Chair, Surgeon-in-Chief, and Assistant Cancer Center Director for Surgery at Smilow Cancer Hospital, Nita Ahuja, MD, MBA, FACS.

Dr. Golshan joins Yale following a near 17-year tenure at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, where he has led several leadership positions. He is the current Dr. Abdul Mohsen and Sultana Al-Tuwaijri Distinguished Chair in Surgical Oncology, Director of the Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship, and Chair of the Cancer Committee for the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center.

An NIH-funded scientist, internationally known for his work in breast cancer and innovative treatment options, Dr. Golshan brings an extensive research and clinical trials portfolio to Yale.

Dr. Golshan completed his fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He earned his Medical Degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and recently completed an MBA at Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management.
