Professor of Surgery Dr. Kevin Billingsley Appointed CMO of Smilow Cancer Hospital

The Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Kevin G. Billingsley, MD, to the Yale Surgery Community. Joining us in January 2020 as Professor of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Billingsley will serve as the Chief Medical Officer at Smilow Cancer Hospital (SCH) and Yale Cancer Center (YCC).

“Kevin is an accomplished surgeon, and a passionate leader. We are delighted to welcome him to the Department,” said Dr. Nita Ahuja, Chair of the Department of Surgery.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Billingsley will work in partnership with Yale New Haven Health and Yale School of Medicine leadership, to manage clinical cancer care, expand our cancer programs, and actively support quality and research initiatives across our network.

Dr. Billingsley joins Yale from Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) where he serves as Medical Director of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Chief of Surgical Oncology, and the Hedinger Professor of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Billingsley is an international leader in the clinical care and research of hepatobiliary cancers, and serves as co-director of the Liver Tumor Program at OHSU.

Dr. Billingsley trained in Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He graduated from Stanford University and received his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is currently an MBA candidate at Oregon Health and Sciences University.

Dr. Billingsley will begin his Yale tenure in January 2020. His appointment follows an extensive search lead by Dr. Charles Fuchs, Director of YCC, and Lori Pickens, Senior Vice President and Executive Director of SCH.
