The Yale Bariatric/Gastrointestinal Surgery Program is ranked number one in the region, renowned for its dedicated team of world-class bariatric surgeons and leading experts in medicine, nursing, nutrition, and psychology. Together, our team members are committed to providing comprehensive care in a compassionate, non-judgmental environment for obese patients through all stages of weight loss. Our goal is to keep our patients motivated, educated, and supported through their weight-loss journey so that they can finally lose the weight and keep it off.
Yale is renowned as a laparoscopic center of excellence, and our bariatric program is the first and currently the only one in Connecticut to offer three different, minimally invasive (laparoscopic) bariatric surgical techniques: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, LAP-BAND® surgery, and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Our bariatric surgery team is recognized for its expertise and innovation. Each surgeon is board certified, fellowship trained in minimally invasive bariatric surgery, and faculty of the Yale School of Medicine. Our surgeons teach laparoscopic techniques to other physicians around the country and are well known for their research and for uncovering new approaches to weight-loss surgery.
The Yale Bariatric/Gastrointestinal Surgery Program at Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH) has been accredited as a Level 1a facility by the Bariatric Surgery Center Network (BSCN) Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This designation means that YNHH has met the essential criteria that ensures it is fully capable of supporting a bariatric surgery care program and that its institutional performance meets the requirements outlined by the ACS BSCN Accreditation Program.
Established by the American College of Surgeons in 2005 in an effort to extend established quality improvement practices to all disciplines of surgical care, the ACS BSCN Accreditation Program provides confirmation that a bariatric surgery center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality care for its bariatric surgery patients.
