Welcome! The Yale Global Surgery Division of the Section of Surgical Education was formed to facilitate resident and faculty engagement in global surgery. Through clinical, educational, and research opportunities in low-resource settings both domestically and internationally Yale residents help address and increase awareness of the worldwide surgical disease burden.

Mission Statement
We will address the rising worldwide surgical disease burden in low-resource settings both domestically and internationally by mobilizing a community of surgical leaders to engage in international partnerships, implement quality improvement and training protocols, increase awareness, and establish the role of Yale Surgery in the global surgical landscape.

- Facilitate educational opportunities to enrich the surgical residency program as a whole and support individual resident career interests related to surgery in resource-poor settings.
- Embrace a philosophy of active problem solving and partnership designed to build sustainable progress through the development of reciprocal exchanges between Yale and it’s international partnership sites.
- Contribute to our own education and the discipline as a whole through multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional research focusing not only on the pathophysiology of disease, but also on health outcomes, health disparities, and access to healthcare both internationally and locally.
- Use our medical skills and educational resources to develop innovative solutions to both local and international issues that are both desired by the populations whom we seek to serve as well as of benefit to the health system as a whole.
- Implement a formal international clinical rotation for Yale Surgery Residents.
- Develop and host a yearly Yale Multidisciplinary Global Surgery Conference dedicated to exchange of ideas regarding global surgery.
- Host monthly meetings for interest group members and journal clubs focused on discussing relevant literature related to global health surgical issues.
