A team led by John Tsang, PhD, MMath, Anthony N. Brady Professor of Immunobiology, has been awarded a £4,200,000 grant from the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) for a project that aims to decode and engineer coordinated immune responses that rapidly clear viruses in an effort to minimize viral spread and immunopathology. The project is one of 11 funded by ARIA through its Sustained Viral Resilience program, with total funding amounting to £57 million. The funded teams will explore and unlock ways to create a new class of medicines that provide durable, broad-spectrum protection against respiratory viruses by engineering the innate immune system.
Along with Tsang, Hao Yuan Kueh, PhD; Akiko Iwasaki, PhD; Ellen Foxman, MD, PhD; and Ruslan Medzhitov, PhD, will serve as leads or co-leads on individual components of the project. ARIA is funded by the United Kingdom’s Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology.
