DESCRIPTION:Alejandro M. Spiotta\, MD\, is a professor of neurosurgery and
  neuroendovascular surgery\, chair of neurosurgery\, and director of neur
 oendovascular surgery at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Pri
 or roles at MUSC include residency program director and program director 
 of the neuroendovascular fellowship. Spiotta received his MD from the Uni
 versity of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2005\, and his undergraduat
 e degree in molecular biology from the University of Pennsylvania College
  of Arts and Sciences in 2001. He completed an internship in general surg
 ery\, residency in neurological surgery\, and fellowship in neuroendovasc
 ular surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Spiotta's research focus is outcome
 s in cerebrovascular disease\, device development\, implementation of end
 ovascular simulation as training tools\, and novel training paradigms for
  neurosurgery residents. He is the founder and principal investigator of 
 STAR (Stroke Thrombectomy and Aneurysm Registry)\, the largest neurovascu
 lar registry\, comprising an international research collaboration of almo
 st 100 centers worldwide. He has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed pub
