Studios

The Office of Team Science (OTS) is offering a new program to YSM faculty who are developing large, multi-component NIH grant submissions (e.g., P30, P50, P01, U01, U19, U54, and similar complex funding mechanisms). Principal investigators will be able to schedule a “studio” to convene a panel of experts who will review proposals in the development stage. Reviewers will provide constructive feedback to strengthen the proposed specific aims and studies and increase the potential for successful application to NIH. Both new and competing renewal applications are eligible for review. New proposals in the early stages of development will be considered. Investigators must demonstrate strong collaboration and sufficient interaction among all proposal components centered around an over-arching theme.

Faculty interested in scheduling a studio session should submit a studio request form. If approved, PIs will then be asked to submit a 3-page description of the proposal (along with prior summary statement for renewals and resubmissions) and a list of suggested reviewers to OTS at least two weeks prior to the studio session. During the studio, the PI will present a 30-minute overview of the proposal to the review panel. An hour and a half-long discussion will follow, during which the studio panel will critique various aspects of the proposed program and suggest improvements to address any weaknesses that lessen the likelihood of success.

Obtaining objective, expert feedback is a critical step in the proposal development process, and faculty are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this exciting new opportunity to promote and facilitate collaborative interdisciplinary efforts at YSM.
