Extensive Research Description
Dr. Buccini contributions to science are focusing in four primary areas: (1) Modifiable factors for improving breastfeeding rates, (2) Primary health care and breastfeeding promotion among high-risk population and (3) Implementation Science.
(1) Modifiable factors for improving breastfeeding rates. She has been involved in secondary data analysis and well conceptualized epidemiological analysis to identify potential intervention packages – based on modifiable factors - to help Brazil and more recently Latin America and Caribbean countries to achieve a minimum target of 50% EBF in less than five years. As result of this research program she has published 5 peer review manuscripts and 4 under review in peer-review journal of Pediatrics and Nutrition field. Additionally, she has two technical report and one grant linked to this research program.
(2) Primary health care and breastfeeding promotion among high-risk population populations. Breastfeeding promoting in the context of poverty, violence and vulnerability among a high-risk population (i.e., low birth weight babies, mother’s mental health status) and the lack of suitable training for primary health professionals has been focused on my clinical practice training as well as research program. As a result of this research program, she has 4 peer review manuscripts published, 1 under review, and a technical manual to support the training of primary health care providers funded by the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
(3) Implementation of breastfeeding programs. She has been engage on the Becoming Breastfeeding Friendly toolbox at Yale where she has been working to guide e and empower countries to measure their readiness to scale up breastfeeding programs and develop and develop quality improvement implementation plans. As a result of this research program, she has 1 peer review manuscripts published, 1 under review, and 3 manuscripts in preparation.
