Research Summary

I am studying skin cancer, particularly squamous cell carcinoma and keratoacanthoma. I also participate in a multidisciplinary vascular conference and inherited kidney cancer program.

Extensive Research Description

I tend to focus on how to distinguish between diseases and disorders that may present in a similar fashion clinically and/or microscopically. I have published papers as well as books in clinical dermatology and dermatopathology on such subjects.

Squamous cell carcinoma. The lesion has a crateriform architecture. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma does not tend to self-resolve and rarely may metastasize.

Research Image 2

Keratoacanthoma. This lesion has a characteristic crateriform architecture. While standard treatment is to treat keratoacanthoma as a subtype of squamous cell carcinoma, true keratoacanthoma is a self-resolving tumor.
