Marcia Inhorn, MPH, PhD

Marcia Inhorn is the William K. Lanman, Jr. Professor of Anthropology and International affairs at Yale University, where she has served as chair of the Council on Middle East Studies and editor of the Journal of Middle East Women's Studies. Dr. Inhorn’s major research interest revolves around infertility and assisted reproduction in the Muslim Middle East. She has conducted research on this topic in Egypt, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, and Arab America over the past 25 years.
She is the author of five books on the subject, including "Cosmopolitan Conceptions: IVF Sojourns in Global Dubai," "The New Arab Man: Emergent Masculinties, Technologies, and Islam in the Middle East," “Local Babies, Global Science: Gender, Religion, and In Vitro Fertilization in Egypt”, “Infertility and Patriarchy: The Cultural Politics of Gender and Family Life in Egypt” and “Quest for Conception: Gender, Infertility, and Egyptian Medical Traditions.” Her works have been awarded the Eileen Basker Prize and Diana Forsythe Prize for outstanding research on gender, technology, biomedicine, and health by the American Anthropological Association. Dr. Inhorn is also the founding editor of the Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies.
