Research Summary
One of the particular challenges in fetal cardiology, is predicting the degree of left sided obstruction based on echocardiographic markers. Our current ability to predict the progression of left sided obstructive lesions with genetic information is quite limited. As a fetal cardiologist, I am interested in investigating the genotype-phenotype correlation in fetuses and infants with left sided obstructive lesions. I am also interested in examining the the effect of non-cardiac lesions on the fetal heart.
At present, I am involved in a research collaborative which is evaluating the impact of congenital heart surgery in Trisomy 13 and 18. We hope to provide guidance to healthcare professionals on how to navigate cardiac surgical decision making in this patient population.
